I've been working on my novel for thirteen years and it has evolved significantly during that time. Confidence and lack of it has been the reason why I've never completed this novel and moved on. I’ve allowed myself to be distracted by Instagram, by other writing projects, keeping chickens - simply because I was so scared of pursuing my novel writing ambitions. And because I thought I wasn’t good enough.
I have many drafts, the first one I ever wrote I free wrote and didn't plan at all, but last year I took the latest version - called it draft one - and used that as the basis for pushing forward. I'm now at the halfway point of the edit (on the assumption my novel is 90,000 words - it might end up being more or less) and for the first time in a long time (or, ever) feel like I can make it to the end.
I’ve created a video sharing the six steps I took to help push me forward. This includes sharing my work so I had accountability, tracking my progress and using index cards.
This video is for all of you who are scared of pushing forward with your own writing. I hope it inspires you to keep going.
