My Christmas Reading List

My Christmas reading List

I can't tell you how much I look forward to those relaxing winter days in front of the fire with one of these beauties. I've six books to read over the festive period and beyond; until spring encourages me back outside.

Christmas Pudding by Nancy Mitford

I picked this up after seeing it, and hearing it call to me, on a beautiful Christmas book display in a bookshop some weeks ago. It has a gold embossed cover and on the inside are small holly leaves and berries. This is Nancy Mitford's second novel and we're introduced to Lady Bobbin and the guests of the Christmas house party she is holding. I'm really looking forward to entering their world for a short while.

The Mistletoe Murder and Other Stories by P.D James

You really can't beat a good murder at Christmas can you? This is a collection of four short stories described as "masterfully atmospheric" which I'm looking forward to reading between Christmas tasks.

Another Little Christmas Murder by Lorna Nicholl Morgan

I do love a country house murder mystery. In the last few years I've read Murder at the Old Vicarage, The Santa Klaus Murder and A Christmas Party and thoroughly enjoyed them all. This one is about a house called Wintry Wold (which I love!) where the snow keeps bringing stranded strangers to its door.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

I've seen the David Suchet film, of course I have (and to me, David Suchet is Poirot) but strangely I haven't read the book. I also haven't seen the new film so I want to read this before I do. And can I just mention the beautiful cover?

The Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater

Ever since I saw this book first mentioned I knew I had to have it. It is the story of "Nigel Slater’s love for winter" and, as I too love winter I can't wait to immerse myself in his writing.

The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell

Last year I read Jeanette Winterson's Christmas Days. It was a selection of short stories based around Christmas. I enjoyed all of them, but particularly the ghost stories which I've never really had an interest in before. So, I treated myself to The Silent Companions. It's a big step for me - a massive scaredy cat - so I'm curious as to how I find it.
