How I deal with overwhelm

One of the great things about working online and for myself is that I can have multiple projects on the go and multiple income streams.

But then, also, one of the downsides of working online and for myself is that I always have projects on the go - and once I’ve finished one project there are always a handful of other projects waiting to be tackled. And there’s always hundreds of things swimming about in my head.

How do all these projects fit together? Where am I going with these projects in the future? How do I break each project down into smaller tasks? - these are just some of the questions that float around in my head along with day to day tasks, what social media I should be concentrating on, what videos I should be making and so on.

When I find myself procrastinating, when I find myself scrolling incessantly through social media when I find my teeth are clenching together, I know I’m feeling overwhelmed.

I’ve got two children at school age. I find my overwhelm (or inability to write another word due to burn out) hits me the week before they break up. That’s because I’ve been working five or six weeks solidly, sometimes over the weekends, too, and I either need a break or I need to ascertain what’s going on in my head.

If I need a break - that’s simple, I simply close my laptop and disappear for a week.

If I’ve too much information in my head then I do a few simple exercises. They help me, and maybe if you’re feeling overwhelmed they’ll help you, too.
